YorWorld: 'Twelfth Night' Preview

From The Sunday Roast: YorWorld

Published 08th Feb 2012

Catch our preview of Dramasoc's anticipated re imagining of Shakespeare's classic. Set during WW1, Viola after her brother Sebastian are reported missing during one of his naval operations pretends to be a boy in order to sign up for the War efforts, with the help of a retired naval captain. Masquerading as a petty officer named Cesario, she enters the service of Orsino, an Admiral stationed in England. Orsino has convinced himself that he is in love with the bereaved Olivia, who lost both her father and brother recently in the War, and who will have nothing to do with any suitors such as Orsino. Orsino decides to use 'Cesario; as a liaison to convey his love to Olivia. Believing Viola to be a man, Olivia falls in love with 'him'. Viola in turn falls in love with Orsino, who believes Viola is a man, and who therefore treats her as his confidant, and so the comedy of errors begins.
